Major Slacker or Genius?
“One of my coworkers was a master of not doing any real work. He was so good at delegating to others, I wondered what he really did. He was always rushing to meetings and looking busy but I never really witnessed him doing anything. Every time I went by his office, he wasn’t there but I would see his car keys on his desk. I naturally assumed he was in the building somewhere, probably in another meeting.
One day, in the mid-morning, I went to see him, and of course he wasn’t in his office. I saw the keys on his desk and decided to come back later. I came by every 15 minutes for a couple of hours and he never came back. I couldn’t take it any longer and decided to head out to grab a late lunch. As I’m walking through the parking lot, I see him coming back from his 3-hour break twirling his real set of car keys in his hand. He froze when he saw me and the look on my face. He knew he was busted.
I didn’t know if I should be upset or in awe at the brilliance of his simple trick. He still takes off for hours at a time. Now, he leaves articles of clothing or other things in his office to pretend he’s still in the building.”
